Milestone testing is coming up, even though we don’t take the test we want to support our older classmates as they prepare. Let's show that we know they are ready to 'tackle the test' with an awesome Spirit Week before our much deserved Spring Break! :)
MONDAY - HAT DAY: Top off your score…wear your favorite hat!
TUESDAY - JERSEY DAY: Tackle that test! Wear your favorite jersey that gets you PUMPED!
WEDNESDAY - SILLY SOCK DAY: Knock the socks off that test!
THURSDAY- HAWAIIAN DAY: Lu-“wow” us with your scores! …. Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses and leis!
FRIDAY - PAJAMA DAY: Rest for the test!
I’ll post pictures each day on twitter of all my students who participate in Spirit Week.
Even though next week is the last week before spring break, and we will be having lots of fun with Spirit Week we still have a lot of learning to do throughout the week.
Thank you to everyone who sent in money for our Relay for Life contest. I don't know if 2nd grade has one yet, but I am very proud of all the money our class collected.

Math-
Our unit 5 math test is scheduled for Wednesday, March 30. Students completed the study guide in class on Wednesday and received it back with all correct answers on Thursday so they could begin preparing for the test.
Standards covered on the test
Reason with shapes and their attributes.
MGSE2.G.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
MGSE2.G.2 Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares to find the total number of them.
MGSE2.G.3 Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
Represent and interpret data.
MGSE2.MD.10 Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.
Please see my previous blogs for more details about each specific standard.
Writing
Next week is the last week of our poetry unit. We have learned so much about using our poet’s eye, using poetry language and different types of poems.
We will take all of our learning and begin one more poem on Monday. The students will have Monday and Tuesday to write and revise their poem. Then on Wednesday we will visit the computer lab and the students will have a chance to type up their poem.
In grammar we will learn how to use a thesaurus and also how to pick the best word to use in our sentences.
Social Studies
Next week we begin a unit on economics. We will begin this unit before spring break and finish it after spring break.
Personal Finance
The focus of this unit is the self-discipline required to make informed and reasoned decisions concerning wise spending and saving choices.
Evidence of Learning
What students should know:
• Decisions about personal spending and saving have both costs and benefits.
SS2E4 - The student will describe the costs and benefits of personal spending and saving choices.
Reading
Next week we will finish up our study of traditional tales. We will end by comparing fairy tales. Students will look at two different versions of the same fairytale and think about how they are the same and how they are different.
